About Connected Pharmacies
Pharmacists play an important role in healthcare. They:
- give advice and support
- dispense prescribed medicines
- supply over-the-counter treatments
- help people manage their medicines
- deliver vaccinations
- help resolve prescription queries
Community pharmacies work closely with GP practices, Health and Care Jersey and other healthcare providers to support patient care.
To provide better, faster and more convenient care, pharmacists sometimes need information from your Healthcare record. In the past, they often had to call or fax GP practices to obtain this information, which could take time and cause delays.
Connected Pharmacies allows authorised pharmacy professionals to securely access relevant information from your GP and other healthcare providers records when it is needed to support your care.
Access to this information helps pharmacy professionals:
- provide faster support when medicines or prescriptions need to be checked
- reduce delays caused by waiting for information from other healthcare providers
- reduce the need for repeat visits to the pharmacy
- improve vaccination services
- improve communication between healthcare professionals
- provide more personalised and informed care
Some health services already have secure access to relevant information from your Healthcare records such as:
The Connected Pharmacies programme extends this access to authorised professionals from participating pharmacies so they can provide you with a better and more efficient service.
Information pharmacies can access
Connected Pharmacies don't have access to your full healthcare records. Authorised pharmacists and pharmacy technicians can only access information that is relevant to your care this is restricted to:
- current medicines and medication history
- recorded allergies
- relevant medical conditions
- vaccination history
They cannot access:
- consultation notes
- letters
- test results
- hospital reports
- any other information that is not needed to provide pharmacy services
