Volunteer with Health and Care Jersey

Why Volunteer

Volunteering with Health and Care Jersey (HCJ) gives you the chance to:

  • learn practical skills
  • improve communication
  • build lasting friendships and confidence
  • help others in the community

It’s also proven to boost your mental and physical health.

HCJ values the vital role volunteers play in improving patient care and supporting our teams. Your time and energy can help us deliver the highest standard of care every day.

You’ll bring comfort, support, and kindness to patients and families when they need it most. Your actions help create a caring environment that makes a real difference.

These experiences can boost your career and give you valuable insight into healthcare.

By volunteering, you support services that benefit everyone in Jersey. You become part of a team that cares deeply about the community.

How to apply

Our first volunteer intake for 2026 is for Meet and Greet and front of house support.

If you’re interested in this role, email volunteer@health.gov.je and include:

  • full name
  • contact number
  • email address
  • days and times you can volunteer
  • a short paragraph on why you want to volunteer
  • any previous volunteering experience
  • whether you have a current DBS check or are willing to get one

Next steps

Attend a Volunteer Induction. This is a short session introducing Health and Care Jersey, what to expect, and time for questions.

Complete a DBS check, a standard safety step for healthcare settings.

Once these steps are complete, we’ll confirm if we have a suitable role for you.

What to expect when you volunteer

We ask for regular hours to make sure patients and staff get consistent support.

Most volunteer roles run Monday to Friday, between 9am and 4pm, excluding bank holidays. We’ll work with you to agree on a schedule that fits in with your life.

You don’t need previous experience, just a willingness to help.

As a volunteer, you’ll play an important part in making patients and visitors feel welcome and supported. Every role matters, and your time can make a big difference. We're currently looking for front of house support, where you'll help visitors find their way and make them feel at ease.

To make sure you feel confident and valued in your role, we provide:

  • full training
  • ongoing support
  • supervision

You can tell us your preferred area, and we’ll do our best to match you with a role that suits your interests.

Volunteering usually doesn’t affect your benefits or job, but it’s always best to check with your benefits advisor.
