Specialty

David specialises in endoscopic therapeutic procedures including dilatations of oesophagus, duodenum, and colon; argon plasma coagulation of mucosal lesions; banding (and injection) of oesophageal varices and haemorrhoids; snare polypectomy.

He performs approximately 1000 diagnostic endoscopic procedures per year and introduced an advanced endoscopic therapeutic procedure, mucosal resection, to Jersey in 2009. This technique removes moderately large precancerous colonic polyps, which previously would have required surgery.

David introduced flexible sigmoidoscopic bowel cancer screening in 2013.

Training

David graduated from Liverpool Medical School in 1985 and has been a consultant gastroenterologist since 1995. He researched coeliac disease in 1988 at Nottingham University, leading to a Doctorate of Medicine in 2001.

In 1991, he trained at the Royal Free Hospital, an internationally famous specialist centre for liver diseases and transplantation.

In 1994, he undertook research in disorders of the bowel and stomach, producing scientific publications.

In 2001, he was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

David joined Jersey General Hospital in 2003.
