Getting support when you’re in hospital
We offer mental health support for anyone receiving care at the General Hospital for a physical health condition.
Our service is open 7 days a week and we respond to referrals as quickly as possible.
We aim to:
- support you with any mental health difficulties while you’re in hospital
- assess your mental health needs and risks
- give you advice
- support hospital staff
- help you plan a safe and supported discharge from hospital
- signpost you to mental health services in the community
How to access the service
If you’re in hospital and need mental health support speak to the staff looking after you, they can refer you.
Once you’re referred, your information is reviewed and sent to the Hospital Liaison Team. They’ll come and see you in hospital to talk about your needs and next steps.
What we help with
We can help you with:
- assessing your emotional wellbeing and mental health needs
- offering short term support while you’re in hospital
- giving advice on medication and care planning
- working with your family, carer and other professionals
- arranging referrals and follow up mental health care after you’re discharged
We work closely with hospital wards and other services to make sure your care is joined up and supports your recovery.
