Getting support if you’re in the criminal justice system
You can get mental health support if you’re:
- arrested
- in court
- in prison
- on probation
We support you at every stage of the criminal justice system to:
- identify your needs
- support you with the right care
- reduce your risks of reoffending
We also help people returning to Jersey or those who need off Island support.
We work closely with other services and agencies to make sure your care is joined up, supportive and compassionate.
How to access support
To access mental health support, speak to:
- police custody officers
- courts or probation officers
- prison health services
- Community Mental Health Teams
- a GP
If you’re worried about someone in the criminal justice system, call our crisis line on +44 (0) 1534 445290.
They’ll make a referral. They can also make a referral without speaking to you if they think it would help you.
If you’re already under the care of a mental health team, your care coordinator can make a referral.
After you’re referred
Once you’re referred, your information is reviewed. Our team will contact you directly to make an appointment and discuss next steps.
If you have complex needs, we may refer you to our specialist services for extra help. We decide this during your assessment.

- giving mental health advice to police, courts and probation
- sharing information to support fair court decisions
- supporting you if you’re in custody or prison
- supporting safe moves between custody, hospital and the community
- providing ongoing support in the community for forensic mental health needs
- working with other services to manage risk and keep people safe, including off‑Island care
