Get support to explore your gender identity
We support adults who are exploring their gender identity or looking for assessment and support for gender dysphoria.
We offer a safe, confidential and respectful space where you can:
- talk about your experiences
- understand your options
- access the right care
Our focus is on helping you make informed choices about your gender journey and supporting your mental and emotional wellbeing.
We aim to:
- provide assessment and support for gender identity concerns
- offer a safe and inclusive space to talk and plan
- help you understand the support and treatment options available
- coordinate referrals to specialist gender identity services when needed
- work closely with your GP and other professionals to keep care joined up
We make sure you feel understood, informed and supported at every stage.

How to access the service
To access this service, speak to your GP or another health professional who can refer you.
If you’re already under the care of a mental health team, your care coordinator can also make a referral.
Once you’re referred, your information is reviewed and sent to the Gender Health and Wellbeing Service if you need a specialist assessment. They’ll contact you directly to make an appointment and discuss next steps.
You can choose to pay for private therapy with a counsellor, psychologist or psychiatrist. You’ll need to find a clinic yourself and pay for all costs. Find how more about

What we help with
We can help you with:
- assessment and support to help you explore your gender identity and emotional wellbeing
- care planning to help you decide your goals and next steps
- clear advice on social transition, local support and healthcare options
- referrals to specialist services, including gender identity clinics if needed
- support with physical health, medication and emotional wellbeing
We work closely with your GP, mental health services and community partners to make sure your care is joined up and centred around your needs.

The Gender Health and Wellbeing Service includes:
- a psychiatrist, who carries out assessments and diagnoses
- administrative staff, who manage appointments and communication
We provide respectful, inclusive and confidential care for everyone who uses the service.
