Getting support at The Diner

The Diner is a drop‑in service offering daily mental health support for adults who:

  • get support from a community mental health team or outpatient service
  • are receiving mental health care in hospital (inpatient)

We focus on your recovery and help you manage your mental health, reducing the risk of crisis.

We work with you to create a personal recovery plan that reflects your needs, priorities and goals.

The Diner is based on James Street in St Helier and is a safe friendly space.

Our support workers and peer support workers help you build or rebuild your wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem. They offer emotional, social and practical support.

Peer support workers bring their own lived experience of recovery. They use this experience to build trusting relationships based on shared understanding, mutual respect and support.

How to access the service

To access this service, speak to your care coordinator who can refer you. You may also be referred if you received mental health care in hospital (inpatient team).

Your care coordinator or the inpatient team will let you know if your referral is accepted and talk you through next steps. You can then drop in when needed or as agreed in your recovery plan.

What we help with

We can support your recovery plan by helping you take part in a range of activities. These focus on your health and wellbeing, social inclusion and therapy.

We offer:

  • psychosocial support
  • creative activities
  • self-care and everyday living skills
  • support with your physical and mental health
  • vocational rehabilitation, to help you return to work
  • exercise groups
  • care planning
  • current affairs discussion groups
  • community trips

We also help you connect with local services and community support including employment services, benefits and housing support. We can also signpost you to social activities and third sector organisations.
