What is the diagnostic waiting list?
When a patient requires a diagnostic test or examination, they are added to the relevant waiting list.
The 'diagnostic waiting list' is a list of our patients currently waiting to attend the hospital for a diagnostic test or investigation.
The length of time a patient has waited is measured from the time they are added to the waiting list to the date the investigation is completed.
Currently we are able to report on patients waiting for endoscopy, colposcopy or a DEXA scan. Over the next few months we will be expanding the data we are able to release here.
What happens in a diagnostic attendance or admission?
A patient may have a diagnostic procedure either as an outpatient attendance, DEXA scan, or as a daycase admission, Endoscopy . Patients are removed from the waiting list at the point their diagnostic investigation is completed.
Once the diagnostic is completed, the consultant will review the results and contact the patient with regard to the next steps. There may be a requirement for additional outpatient appointments as follow-up appointments or an inpatient procedure which will be scheduled.
