Asbestos disposal - domestic and commercial customers

Asbestos disposal from your home

The Asbestos Reception and Disposal Facility (ARDF) at La Collette accepts waste asbestos containing materials (ACMs).

Domestic customers can deliver small quantities without pre-notifying Growth, Housing and Environment (GHE) providing the following conditions are met:

  • asbestos waste can be removed by you from your own home. As it can give off harmful dust particles, it needs to be handled with care. We recommend that any asbestos removal work is carried out by an approved Licensed Asbestos Removals Contractor (LARC)
  • asbestos waste must weigh less than 40kg. GHE classes small domestic quantities as no greater than two 20kg bags or one double wrapped parcel of ACMs no larger than a corrugated roofing sheet. Larger quantities of domestic ACM's must be pre-booked with GHE in the same way as commercial quantities
  •  asbestos must be bagged and wrapped correctly. It must be double bagged and wrapped in United Nations (UN) approved bags or 1000 gauge clear plastic sheeting. these can be purchased from many local suppliers

Asbestos Insulating Board (AIB) and other licenced ACMs must be bagged or wrapped in accordance withApproved Code of Practice 8 (ACoP 8, revised 2015) page 53, paragraph 152.

For non-licensed ACMs such as cement, the same procedure should be followed, substituting the red bag for another clear bag.

You will need to provide photographic ID and proof of your home address to the asbestos analyst .

The asbestos waste can only be delivered when the ARDF is open, which is on alternating Wednesdays between 8am and 12pm.

The Asbestos Reception and Disposal Facility (ARDF) at La Collette accepts waste asbestos containing materials (ACMs).
Commercial customers can deliver licensed or non-licensed asbestos wastes providing the following conditions are met:

  • all asbestos waste consignments must be booked in with Asbestos disposal at GHE using the Asbestos Waste Booking Form. One completed form for each load must be emailed to Asbestos disposal, at least 7 working days prior to the disposal date. A date and time for delivery will be emailed to you by return
    • there is no longer a requirement to submit a separate consignment note to the Regulator. This booking form will satisfy that requirement and supersedes the advice in section 4 of the Guidance Notes on the Movement of Hazardous Waste and Healthcare Waste in Jersey (JWL018) and point 2 of the “paperwork” required contained in the “Information about the disposal of licensed asbestos” and “Information about the disposal of non-licensed asbestos” below.
  • asbestos waste must be delivered by a registered waste carrier. Jersey is committed to improving the management of hazardous waste and its potentially damaging associated health and environmental impacts

  • asbestos waste must be segregated from all other wastes. Mixed loads will be rejected. Licensed asbestos waste must be delivered separately to non-licensed type
