About Deposit Protection
During the 2008 global financial crisis, Jersey was fortunate not to experience a bank failure. As the risk remains, Jersey’s financial safety net is designed to protect the Island’s economy and the public, if something were to happen in future.
The Jersey Resolution and Depositors Compensation Authority (JRDCA)
JRDCA is the independent body responsible for safeguarding the public and the wider economy from the impacts of bank failure. It provides protection through:
Resolution planning
This involves taking action and helping a failing bank to ensure that essential services continue, to:
- protect public money
- support economic stability
Depositors’ Compensation
The Jersey Bank Depositors Compensation Scheme (JDCS) repays eligible depositors up to the scheme limit when a bank, that usually doesn't provide essential services, goes into liquidation.
