Sharing your details with UK credit reference agencies
We share limited personal details about Jersey residents with UK credit reference agencies (CRAs). This helps you apply for credit cards and other financial products more easily.
This applies to Jersey residents aged 18 and over.
In the UK, CRAs use electoral roll data. Until July 2026, this data had not been available to CRAs for Jersey.
How this helps you access financial products
CRAs use this data to support financial institutions to:
- check your identity
- check your credit history
These checks support:
- applications for financial products
- law enforcement activity
What information we share
We share:
- your name
- your address
- your date of birth
This means banks and other providers can access basic details when they review applications from Jersey residents. They already do this for UK residents.
This helps:
- increase automation and efficiency
- improve process turnaround times
How to opt out
If you’re happy for your data to be shared, you don’t need to do anything.
If you don't want your data shared, you can opt out by:
- adjusting your data sharing preferences on services.gov.je
- calling us at +44 (0) 1534 444444
Data shared before you opted out will have been shared with the CRAs, but no further updates will be shared.

Legal basis for sharing data
In 2023, Jersey updated the Register of Names and Addresses (Jersey) Law 2012 to allow data sharing with CRAs.
