To celebrate Liberation 75, an exclusive gift is to be sent to every household in Jersey, courtesy of The Bailiff: a commemorative booklet, titled 'Jersey's path to freedom'.
The booklet is a great source of brief information for anyone who wants to learn more about the hardships Jersey faced just 75-80 years ago, and how the Island was freed from occupying forces following the Second World War.
The booklet provides an overview of Jersey's devastating occupation experience and details the key moments that lead to Jersey's Liberation. It also shines a light on the key characters of occupation and liberation and provides a timeline of events from 1940 until 1945.
We would like to invite Islanders to collect their free pack of Liberation 75 bunting during their next visit to their local Waitrose store. Islanders who collect their pack of bunting are encouraged to decorate their home in the run up to 9 May and post their photos on social media using the hashtag #LiberationDecoration.
Can't get to Waitrose? No problem. Just ask a friend or family members to collect it on your behalf.
Your visit to Waitrose should take place during your 2-hour window for leaving your house. During this period, you can leave your house to purchase food and other basic necessities, exercise, or for any medical needs.
Liberation 75 badges
The Bailiff will gift every school student in Jersey with a limited-edition Liberation 75 pin badge. Badges will be given out at each school in Jersey to every student when students return to school.
You can also buy a badge from Waitrose for £3.
The Chief Minister, in support of the Council of Ministers, will be issuing an exclusive, limited-edition 50 pence commemorative coin to every Islander over the age of 75 in Jersey.
Later in the year we will ask parishioners to collect their complementary gift from their local Parish Hall. Where a Parishioner is unable to collect their commemorative coin, we will ask friends or family members to collect on Parishioners' behalf. Deliveries will also be made to each care home in Jersey.
You can also buy coins from Waitrose for £6.
