Ann Street Youth Centre

About Ann Street Youth Centre

We are developing a new youth centre on the former Ann Street Brewery site in St Helier.

Young people have helped design the centre, for young people.

The five‑floor centre will provide modern, safe and inclusive spaces for:

  • activity
  • creativity
  • wellbeing
  • support
  • community

This project supports the Government's commitment to revitalising St Helier, and increasing opportunities for children and young people who live in high-density housing areas.

Why we're building a youth centre

In St Helier, around 71% of residents live in flats. This can limit access to safe indoor and outdoor spaces for recreation.

More than 1,600 young people live within walking distance of the proposed site.

The new centre will:

  • provide a modern and welcoming environment for young people
  • support physical, social and emotional wellbeing
  • offer accessible help through the Youth Enquiry Service (YES)
  • create new opportunities for sport, hobbies, skills and community connections
  • give children and young people a place to go where they feel safe and included

Opening timeline

Date
Objective
January 2027
Youth Enquiry Service (YES) opens in a standalone building on the site.
Summer 2028
Ann Street Youth Centre opens to the public.

What Ann Street Youth Centre offers

The centre will include a wide range of indoor and outdoor facilities for young people aged 8 to 25, including:

  • a rooftop kick pitch
  • a large climbing wall
  • a dance studio
  • a sports hall
  • a boxing gym
  • a health and beauty room
  • a sensory room
  • a new, fully accessible home for the Youth Enquiry Service (YES)

How young people have shaped the design (Youth Ambassadors)

Children and young people have been involved from the start. Their feedback has shaped the layout, features and overall feel of the centre.

A Youth Ambassador programme is being set up to continue this involvement during the next design phase.

Youth Ambassadors will work with designers, artists and youth workers to:

  • shape the interiors
  • select colours and themes
  • help make sure the centre reflects young people’s needs
