Council of Ministers Meeting

26 January 2006

MEDIA RELEASE

24 January 2006

Council of Ministers’ Meeting

Jersey’s Council of Ministers will meet this Thursday, 26 January. The public agenda appears below and the following bullet points are intended to provide helpful information about each of the items for discussion.

  • Minutes from the previous meeting of 12 January.
  • The Council will be asked to endorse the Strategic Travel and Transport Plan (P.174/2005), which was lodged au Greffe on 30 August 2005 by the Environment and Public Services Committee. The Plan sets out an action plan and makes a request for resources to develop and implement a sustainable transport and travel policy over the next five years. It is planned that this report and proposition will be put to the States for debate in the next few weeks.
  • The Council will be asked to agree to the establishment of a high level, political social policy steering group. The task of this group would be to oversee the development of policy and to gain fuller understanding of the work which is currently done by the States to provide social protection in the Island community.
  • Ministers will receive an update on the public sector Change Programme, its achievements and the recommendations for its future direction.
  • Ministers will receive a presentation from the Waterfront Enterprise Board, containing an update for ministers on the waterfront development process and the likely timescale for future development.
  • The Council will receive an update on the legislation programme and the work in progress.
  • The Council will receive an update on the Criminal Justice Policy, together with an action plan for work which can be undertaken without requiring additional resources.
  • The Council will consider the establishment of a Food Prices Study Group. This item was deferred from the previous agenda.
  • The Council will consider a revised draft Code of Conduct which will apply to all Ministers.
  • Ministers will receive an oral update on progress in revising the Strategic Plan, following further work on the document by ministers at a special meeting last week.

Notes to editors:

  1. The meeting will take place in the Committee Room at the Education, Sport and Culture Department, starting at 9.30am.
