Planning to increase the size of Site Notices

21 September 2006

The Planning and Environment Department is shortly to increase the size of the site notices which must be displayed at the location of every planning application. The current notices are produced at A4, but Planning Minister, Senator Freddie Cohen has instructed that this be increased to A3.

Senator Cohen said,

"In response to a suggestion from Deputy Gerard Baudains and Deputy Ben Fox I have instructed that site notices be increased in size from A4 to A3. It is essential that site notices are clearly visible as they provide a vital new function by highlighting planning issues in a local area”

The new sized site notices will be sent out from Monday 2nd October 2006.

Background for editors

The display of site notices became a requirement of the new Planning and Building (Jersey) Law, 2002, when it came into force on 1st July this year. At present, the Department prints out a site notice when a planning application is registered and returns it to the applicant, with a plastic wallet. The applicant must then display the site notice in a prominent location on the site for a period of three weeks. The site notice is in addition to the weekly publication lists printed in the Jersey Gazette.
