A delegation of French politicians will visit Jersey on Monday 5 June to continue the reciprocal visits of the Groupe D’Etudes between Channel Island and French politicians.
The visiting politicians, led by Député Alain Cousin, President of the Groupe D’Etudes in the National Assembly, will be welcomed by the Bailiff Sir Philip Bailhache in the States chamber on Monday. The day’s agenda includes presentations from Jersey politicians on subjects of mutual interest. The change to ministerial government and relationships with the EU and Channel Islands are amongst the topics of discussion. There will also be discussions about further opportunities for business and transport links.
Senator Walker will host a dinner in the evening. He commented “This visit is another demonstration of the increasing warmth of relations between Jersey and French politicians. These visits are very good for the Island because they allow us to develop our relationships and understand how each other work.”
The Groupe D’Etudes was formed following discussions between the Bailiff and French Deputé Alain Cousin. Sir Philip encouraged the establishment of a Groupe d’Etudes comprising parliamentarians from the Channel Islands and the French National Assembly with the intention of improving understanding between the two bodies. The deliberations of the group culminated in a visit to the National Assembly in Paris by a delegation from the States of Jersey and of Guernsey in November 2004.
