Business mentoring scheme: partnership approach for continuing success

30 March 2007

Economic Development Minister Senator Philip Ozouf has praised a small band of business mentors who contributed to the success of this year’s Jersey Enterprise Awards. He promises that it’s a joint public/private approach which could be used more in the future.

The team of mentors included representatives from the Institute of Directors, the Chamber of Commerce and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD). They used their expertise to help would-be applicants assess their business performance and achievements, not only supporting them in making an application for an Award, but in identifying opportunities for future development and growth.

Now the Awards evening has taken place, the mentors will continue their work and in the light of their success are being asked to broaden the scope of their work.

Senator Ozouf said: “The Council of Ministers’ role is to establish an environment in which local businesses can thrive

We have a range of services to assist businesses either as a start up or expanding, including practical advice and financial support.

I am delighted the business mentors have proved their worth by helping Enterprise Award applicants. I’m also delighted that their good work will continue into the future.’”

  3. Enterprise Award winners had praise for the work of the mentors:

    1. ‘Our mentor helped us to see our business from the outside looking in.

I was impressed with his professionalism and clear sightedness, not only in assisting us with our submission but also in identifying areas of our business operations where scope for improvement can be made. We intend to take forward his comments, which may have taken us longer to identify had it not been for his support’ – Amalgamated Facilities Management Limited
