Compost Smells – La Collette

18 July 2007

The Department has received a number of complaints concerning smells emanating from the compost plant at La Collette.

Smells have resulted from a back log of raw green waste that is now being processed following the breakdown of a large piece of shredding equipment. The equipment has now been repaired and it is important that the material is shredded and allowed to compost through the natural process.

The Department would like to apologise for any inconvenience that has been caused and would like to reassure the public that every effort is made to shred and process the compost when the prevailing wind direction is not going to blow towards any residential area.
