Over 20,000 books to be recycled at the annual Biggest Book sale this weekend

13 October 2008

The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association are holding their annual ‘Biggest’ Book Sale this weekend at the Royal Jersey Showground, Trinity.

The charity has been collecting books since last year’s sale and has collected over 20,000 books in categories ranging from Architecture to Zoology.  The books will be sold at extremely attractive prices, for example all children’s books are priced at 25p.

All of the books have been collected locally and will be re-homed locally making the book sale, which is now in its fifteenth year, the largest local recycling event.

Emma Richardson, Assistant Recycling Officer said ‘The book sale is a wonderful example of local recycling.  The books are collected and resold within the local community and, as the charity retains any books that are left unsold, there’s no waste - so the environment benefits too!’

Posters advertising the event have been displayed island wide but the charity is concerned that the posters may be missed amongst the senatorial candidate posters which are battling for public attention.

The event runs on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October at the Royal Jersey Showground, Trinity.  The sale is open to the public from 9.30am to 4.00pm each day.
