Over Three Million Bus Passengers in a Year

20 October 2008

More and more people are taking the buses and figures show that over the last year, Connex carried more than three million passengers. This is fantastic news for Transport and Technical Services (TTS) who have been trying to encourage more people to use the public bus service and have invested in a new bus station and have been working closely with Connex to improve the service provided.

Connex has just completed its sixth year of operation and its figures show that for the first time it has passed the three million mark, carrying 3,118,385 passengers for the year ending 21 September 2008. This represents a 5.83% increase over the year five figures or an extra 171,723 passengers.

“I have been looking forward to passing the three millionth passenger mark and as a regular bus user I have been playing my part in making it happen,” said Deputy Guy de Faye, Minister of Transport and Technical Services. “We are working with Connex to continually improve the bus service we provide for the public and it is very gratifying to see that the public are responding by using the buses more.”

The recently approved extension to Connex’s contract incorporated additional commuter services, the re-use of returning school buses in the morning as well as the timetabling of previous relief services which are all providing a greater choice for the public. The Minister added “I would like to increase the bus capacity on all commuter services if possible and TTS will be considering how best this can be provided next year. I would love to see the ridership figures continue to increase which will help relieve the congestion of the roads and contribute to our environmental aims.”
