Road Survey being undertaken

20 November 2008

Transport and Technical Services is undertaking survey work on the Island’s main roads and associated signage, barriers, embankments etc in order to update its information on the location and condition of all of these highway structures. A specialist vehicle will be in the Island from Thursday 20 November for 6 - 7 days to record, computerise and analyse all this information. The van will travel at normal traffic speed so there will be no resultant delays or need for any special traffic management provision.

Yotta Livery

Transport and Technical Services looks after 275 kilometres of road and most of the associated signage and structures on and beside the road. The data that this survey provides will be invaluable in-depth information to ensure the Department is in the best position to manage and maintain these assets appropriately.

It is important for Transport and Technical Services to establish and maintain a programme of repair and replacement, not only on the grounds of safety but also to ensure most efficient use of funds. Funding has been limited this year and although it is hoped this situation will improve, this information will help prioritise where investment is most needed.
