Airport Retail Redevelopment to Commence Soon

21 January 2009

A complete redevelopment of Jersey Airport’s airside departures area will soon be underway. The new passenger facilities, which will include extensive alterations to the existing catering, newsagent and Duty Free outlets, will also offer additional opportunities for local retailers.

Expressions of interest are now being sought from potential tenants for the three new retail units available, which range in sizes of 624, 635 and 1378 square feet. The units will be offered on a leasehold basis and all uses consistent with the airport environment will be considered.

Airport Director, Julian Green, said, “This is an exciting project for Jersey Airport. The project will receive a significant investment of more than £2.5 million by the existing retail operators, including HMS Host, WH Smith and World Duty Free.

“Together with new retail partners we look forward to offering a significantly improved retail and catering offering, as well as enhancing the overall journey experience for our departing passengers”, he said.

In conclusion, Mr Green added, “As well as the enhanced facilities, improvements will be made to the ambience of the area, including a greater emphasis on what the Island has to offer by way of fresh produce. The design team are also developing concepts to leave a more appropriate positive lasting impression for travellers.

Designs are now being finalised and subject to planning approval, it is hoped the project will commence in March 2009 and be completed by mid summer.
