Business community invited to Communications Event

20 January 2009

A series of initiatives designed to support Jersey’s business community and help the economy to grow and diversify are being unveiled at an event in three weeks’ time.

The Jersey Enterprise 2009 Communications Event is being held on Tuesday 10 February at 8.15am at the Radisson SAS Waterfront Hotel. Among the initiatives being announced are the Master Class series, which is designed to give practical skills to relatively new business owners; Meet The Buyer events, which give small-scale suppliers direct contact with large purchasers; export initiatives, helping Jersey businesses develop overseas markets; and import projects to help diversify the Island’s economy.

The Minister for Economic Development, Senator Alan Maclean, said: “The Communications Event is held annually and is always well attended, but given the current economic climate I would expect there to be even greater interest this year. We are going to announce plans to enhance the level and type of support that is available to local entrepreneurs and established businesses.

“There is already a wide range of support available for them, as part of our efforts to grow and diversify the economy, but there will also be additional initiatives to stimulate the economy and help businesses which are suffering from the effects of the global downturn. The Communications Event is an opportunity for Jersey Enterprise to talk to the business community about how we are supporting them and helping them to meet the challenges that may arise during the year.”

The morning is open to everyone, and anyone who would like to attend should notify Jersey Enterprise by sending confirmation to enterprise@gov.je or phoning 448140. A light breakfast will be served after the presentation and the event should be finished by approximately 9.30am.
