Chief Minister attends Paris Boat Show

07 December 2009

On Saturday 5 December 2009, the Chief Minister, Senator Terry Le Sueur, attended the Paris Boat Show at the invitation of Senateur Jean-François Le Grand, President of the Conseil général de la Manche. The invitation is an outcome of the increasingly successful partnership that has developed between Jersey and Normandy over recent years.

Jersey Harbours are exhibiting alongside La Manche at the show, which runs from 5 – 13 December and the Chief Minister visited the stand during his short visit. The aim is to promote Jersey as a prime yacht destination, create business opportunities for Jersey's marine industries and celebrate our shared maritime history with La Manche.

During the visit, Senateur Le Grand announced that the 2010 Tour des Ports de la Manche will, for the first time, be starting from St Helier on Sunday 11 July 2010. The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for the support of Senateur Le Grand and the Conseil général de la Manche.

"It will be an honour for Jersey to host the start of this important race," he said. "The Tour des Ports attracts more than 100 yachts and 700 crew members every year so this is an exciting opportunity for Jersey to showcase itself as a key destination in maritime tourism. I am indeed grateful for the support of our colleagues in the Conseil général de la Manche and have invited them to attend the Jersey Boat Show in May next year."
