Lamp Post Replacement

01 April 2009

Transport and Technical Services has removed three old concrete lamp columns in the Union Street / Hue Street area near to the Magistrate’s Court. The condition of the columns has become so poor, due to damage by frost during the winter, that they have had to be removed. However, the replacement posts will not arrive for another two weeks. This will mean the area will not be as well lit during the hours of darkness for two or three weeks until the new ones are in position.

John Richardson, Chief Officer of Transport and Technical Services said “We apologise for any inconvenience to the public, but we hope people will understand that these posts have had to come down as soon as possible for safety reasons, rather than wait until the new ones arrive.”

In all, five new lamp posts have been ordered and when they arrive an additional two lamp posts will be taken down and replaced in the same area.
