Ministers discuss Strategic Plan

12 January 2009

Ministers have just completed a two day strategic planning session where they discussed their key objectives for Jersey for the next three years.

The Chief Minister, Senator Terry Le Sueur, said after the meeting: “This has been a very positive two days, where we’ve concentrated our energies on realistic expectations.
During our discussions we recognised the spending pressures facing islanders in the current economic climate, and agreed our main priority is to be tough on cutting States spending.
We want to implement all possible savings and efficiencies and will approve no additional spend unless it is matched by savings or income.
Although we will be investigating extra spending requirements, we will expect every savings avenue to be explored before proposing other means of funding.
Our strategic plan focuses on working together to meet the needs of our community. But we recognise that our objectives can only be met with a strong economy, so we will need to support and maintain our economy to enable us to meet those needs.
We look forward to continuing our discussions with States members later this month.”

The Strategic Plan will be developed with input from all States Members and a number of workshops have been organised (Jan 19th and 22nd), where States Members can contribute their ideas for Jersey’s future.
