Planning approve major developments

23 February 2009

20 February 2009

Several major planning applications were approved this week as the Planning and Environment Department works to support the construction industry in the current economic climate.

In addition to the 45 residential units approved on Wednesday at Beau Couperon, Field 818 in Trinity and Maison St. Brelade, consent has also been granted for 6 flats in St. Helier, a large agricultural store in St. Clement and a large new dwelling in St. Peter’s Village.

Minister for Planning and Environment Senator Freddie Cohen said that this was positive news for the construction industry.

Senator Cohen said, "I have asked the officers of the Department to make every effort to assist the construction industry by speeding up planning decisions and I am delighted with their response. In addition to my approval of 196 units, nursing home and other facilities at the Westmount site last week, these amount to a considerable contract value for the industry and demonstrate that we understand the issues and are delivering."

Senator Cohen went on to indicate that he would continue to support schemes which demonstrated architectural excellence. He added, "I think that people have understood that when they produce a scheme of quality, I will approve it and do so quickly."
