Finance industry wins award

19 October 2009

Jersey’s Economic Development Minister has congratulated all those involved in the island’s finance industry, after Jersey won an award for 'Best International Finance Centre of the Year' at a ceremony in London.

The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Private Client Awards for 2009 / 2010 were held in London on Tuesday 13 October, and the award was presented to the Chief Executive of Jersey Finance, Geoff Cook.

The awards highlight excellence among private client solicitors / attorneys, accountants, barristers, bankers, trust managers and financial advisors. They are judged by a panel of 14 UK experts, who are supported by more than 100 industry professionals from across the world.

The Economic Development Minister Senator Alan Maclean said: “I am very pleased that the standing of the island’s finance industry has been endorsed by a group of experienced industry professionals. We have been working hard to develop our legislative and regulatory frameworks, and this industry award recognises the progress made. It also reflects the International Monetary Fund’s recent report that put Jersey’s ratings at the top of compliance tables.

“I would like to congratulate all those in the industry, in government and, of course, the regulators, whose work has contributed to the success of the island’s finance industry.

“We will now continue working to remain competitive in a changing global environment, while also remaining at the forefront of the international drive to strengthen financial regulation.”
