Swine flu vaccine to be offered to all Islanders

07 December 2009

People in Jersey who would like to be vaccinated against swine flu can now make an appointment with their GP to receive the vaccine.

GPs will be offering the swine flu vaccine to the rest of the Island’s population as part of the final phase of the vaccination programme. The vaccine is free and there will be no charge for appointments.

Medical Officer of Health, Dr Rosemary Geller, said: “I’m delighted with how well the vaccination programme has been received and that we’re now in a position to offer the vaccine to all Islanders. I’m also grateful to GPs for their help with the vaccine programme so far.”

Dr Linda Diggle, an immunisation specialist who’s leading the vaccination programme, said: “The final phase of the vaccination programme is being carried out by GPs. They will be offering the vaccine to the rest of the population at clinics held over the coming weeks and months subject to available vaccine supplies. Anyone who’d like to receive the vaccine should contact their GP to make an appointment.”

Students returning from university or other studies abroad can either make an appointment with their GP or attend 1 of 2 clinics at the hospital on 4 and 5 January.

The flu helpline, which provides general information for the public, is open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm and the number to call is 445566. Anyone needing medical advice should contact their GP.
