Further three new cases of Swine Flu in Jersey

24 June 2009

Three new cases of Swine Flu have been confirmed in the Island, bringing the total number of cases to nine.

Two of the cases are at Helvetia House School and relate to last week’s confirmed case. Both patients are now fully recovered and back at school. The people whom they have been in contact with are taking Tamiflu as a precaution but do not have flu symptoms. The school remains open as normal.

Today’s (24 June) third confirmed case has no connection with Helvetia or any other school. The patient is taking Tamiflu and is recovering at home. Their close contacts have also been given Tamiflu.

Deputy Medical Officer of Health, Dr Susan Turnbull, said: “All previously confirmed cases of Swine Flu have made a good recovery to date.

“It is very important that anyone unwell with a fever (temperature 38 degrees or more) and flu symptoms stays at home and calls their GP for a home visit. I would also like to urge anyone who has not registered with a GP to do so now so that they will be able to ask for a home visit if they need one.”

The Flu helpline, which provides general information for the public, is open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm and the number to call is 445566. Anyone needing medical advice will need to contact their GP.
