Public urged to take bonfire precautions

12 July 2010

At 4pm on Saturday 10 July 2010 the Fire and Rescue Service received a report of an unattended bonfire in St Peter that had started to spread to surrounding undergrowth. One fire engine with a crew of 5 personnel attended the incident.

The fire service are recommending that during this dry period it is not advisable to have a bonfire, but if it is absolutely necessary you should:
  • inform the Fire and Rescue Service
  • make sure that you have a suitable means to extinguish the fire
  • never leave it unattended, as conditions can change rapidly
