A statement from the Chief Minister on the Polish air crash

12 April 2010

The devastating news of the air crash that took the life of Lech Kaczynski, the Polish President, his wife and many other public figures has left the people of Poland in deep shock.

On behalf of all States members I would like to extend heartfelt sympathy to the Polish people, both here in Jersey and in their homeland.

Church services are being held across Poland at the beginning of a week of mourning and I understand that Jersey will hold a special Mass at St Thomas' Church on the evening of Tuesday 13 April 2010.

This will be an opportunity for the Islanders to come together and support our local Polish community at this sad and difficult time. I will be attending with my wife and Simon Crowcroft, the Constable of St Helier.

Chief Minister
Senator Terry Le Sueur
