Home damaged by fire

16 February 2010

People in Jersey are being urged not to put items that can burn easily on top of cookers after a fire started in a home in St Saviour when a child accidentally turned on an electric hob on which a laundry basket had been left.

13 fire-fighters were sent to the house at Les Cinq Chenes Estate on Tuesday 16 February.  Although no-one was injured, the kitchen was severely damaged by fire, heat and smoke and the rest of the property received smoke damage throughout.

The house occupiers were alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm and were able to evacuate to safety quickly before calling the Fire Service.
