Island Plan Exhibition

01 March 2010

The 6 month period of public consultation on the draft Island Plan comes to a close on 31 March 2010 and the last public exhibition will be held on Wednesday 3 March at St Lawrence Parish Hall between 12 noon - 8pm.  Officers will be in attendance from 4pm, to answer questions and to provide information.

The draft Island Plan, which sets out the policies and proposals put forward to guide Jersey’s development over the next 10 years, was published by the Minister for Planning and Environment, Senator Freddie Cohen, in September 2009. Originally planned for 3 months to the end of 2009, the time for the public to view and comment on the policies and proposals was extended for a further 3 months.

A series of Island Plan exhibitions, with displays and planning officers on hand, have been held in every parish hall over the last 2 months.

Commenting on the exhibitions, the Planning and Environment Minister, Senator Freddie Cohen said “It is vital that the draft Island Plan is viewed by as many people as possible: this final public exhibition provides those Islanders, who have yet to view the proposals, with an opportunity to do so and to and discuss any issues directly with planning officers.”

It is important to note that there are only 4 weeks left for people to submit comments; after which the draft plan will move to the next stage of an independent Public Inquiry. If people have not submitted comments before 31 March 2010, their views will not be considered by the Inspector at the Examination in Public.

Hard copies of the Island Plan can be obtained from the Planning Department, States Greffe bookshop, the Library and all the parish halls.
