Polish Ambassador to visit Jersey

19 November 2010

The Polish Ambassador, Her Excellency Ms Barbara Tuge-Erecińska, will be visiting the Island on 22 and 23 November 2010 to strengthen political and cultural links between Jersey and Poland.

During her visit, she will be meeting with government officials to learn more about the financial services offered by Jersey and to explore economic opportunities for both jurisdictions, including the possible development of a Double Tax Agreement or a Tax Information Exchange Agreement. They will also discuss Poland’s forthcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union in July 2011. Poland joined the EU 7 years ago and this is the first time it will take up the rotating 6 month presidency.

The Chief Minister, Senator Terry Le Sueur, said “I’m very much looking forward to welcoming the Polish Ambassador and to discussing issues of common interest. Jersey has a significant Polish community who make a valuable contribution to Island life. I hope this will be an excellent opportunity to strengthen links between Jersey and Poland.”

The Ambassador will also be opening the new Polish Consulate at Ogier House and will present Ms Wanda Adam with her nomination as the new Honorary Consul for the Republic of Poland.

Her Excellency will be accompanied by Chief of the Consular Section, Mr Dariusz Adler, and Second Secretary, Ms Justyna Januszewska, and will be staying at Government House.
