Relocation of private hire taxi postponed

30 April 2010

The Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Senator Paul Routier, has announced that the planned relocation of private hire taxis to the airport's short stay car park will be postponed and remain under review until matters raised by industry representatives had been resolved.

It had been intended that the revised arrangements would be effective from 1 May 2010.

The changes were brought about by continuing conflict between members of the taxi cab industry and health and safety issues related to crossing the road to the central collection point.

Senator Routier said "While I believe the proposed plans are appropriate responses to the ongoing issues, we need to ensure that there is an agreement between all the parties on the proposed measures.”

While airport management reviews the plans, the collection point for private hire cabs will remain in the central reservation.
