Catwalk challenge for youth club

08 March 2011

Hot on the heels of their success at the Jersey Enterprise Awards, a team from Le Squez Youth Club are hosting a fashion show to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The show, which is taking place at the Royal Yacht Hotel on Friday 11 March, has been organised by Jane Donald, senior youth worker at the club. “This is an opportunity for young women to build their confidence and self esteem and improve their body image while having fun strutting their stuff. We had a clothes fitting last Wednesday and they loved it. One of the models said she felt amazing and another said she loved the dress because she would never normally wear something like this," Jane explained.

2 young women from the club are acting as comperes for the show, 32 are modelling and a further 16 are helping behind the scenes with photography.

6 volunteers from Highlands’ hairdressing course will be helping with hair and make-up under the watchful eye of their tutor and hairdressers Amber Chapman and Cherish Chapman.

“State Street have sponsored the event so that we have been able to keep the price of the tickets low and are even paying for the girls to eat at the hotel before the show," Jane added. Clothes are being supplied by Affinity, SDS, Jane Norman, Warehouse, Miss Selfridge, New Look and De Gruchy.
