New proposed routes for Island Explorer buses

17 February 2011

The Minister for Transport and Technical Services is putting forward revised routes and timetables in his proposals for the 2011 Island Explorer bus network -  3 routes would start on Saturday 9 April and run daily until Saturday 1 October.

All 3 routes have been modified from their 2010 schedule:

  • blue route is extended north from its former terminus at Jersey Pearl, serving Greve de Lecq and L’Etacq via Route de Trodez
  • red route now terminates at La Mare Wine Estate
  • green route now operates via Faldouet on the Gorey Pier to Durrell section.

A new service is also being launched next month. Service 26 starts on Friday 11 March and will operate throughout 2011.  It covers the majority of the former yellow Island Explorer route and provides a faster link between Durrell and St Helier, via Hougue Bie, than was offered by green Island Explorer during 2010.

The proposed changes would all be managed within Connex’s current contract and do not require additional funding.

Deputy Kevin Lewis, the Assistant Minister for Transport and Technical Services, said “We are delighted to be able to create some new links on the Island Explorer network this year. With these new proposals, passengers can now travel between places which previously required a change of bus. It will be possible to go from St Ouen’s Village to Red Houses, or from Georgetown to Ransom’s Garden Centre, in a single journey.I would like to hear people’s views on these proposals over the next 2 weeks.”

Transport and Technical Services is working with Connex to improve the bus service. Changes that were made last year such as the introduction of the early morning commuter service for residents of St John, St Mary and St Lawrence arriving in town by 8am and the revised timetable on the Service 15 providing buses to the airport earlier in the morning, have proved popular.

A full list of changes to Island Explorer services will be published in the Gazette part of the JEP on Thursday 17 February and comments are requested before Friday 4 March 2011.
