Another knife victim identified as child

14 August 2011

States of Jersey Police investigating the deaths of 6 people in a critical stabbing incident at St Helier this afternoon, have identified that 1 of the 2 victims, earlier believed to have been a man, is another child.

In what has been a complex and difficult inquiry, police have now determined that the victims include 3 young children, 2 women and 1 man.

Police were called to Upper Midvale Road in St Helier just after 3pm today, in response to an incident at an apartment in Victoria Crescent, which also spilled out into the street.

Forensic examination of the crime scene continues tonight, and uniformed officers are also on patrol in the area to support the inquiry and the local community.

A 30-year-old man remains in police custody at the General Hospital, where he has undergone surgery and is said to be in a stable, but serious condition.

Police are still trying to confirm the identity of the victims, who are all believed to be Jersey residents and investigations continue to establish exactly what happened.

A major incident room has been set up at Police Headquarters in St Helier, and Police are appealing for anyone who may have any information to contact them on 01534 612612.
