Register to vote deadline on Monday

02 September 2011

Islanders have 3 days left to register to vote in the 2011 States of Jersey elections.

Islanders who want to vote in the elections for Senators, Deputies and Constables on Wednesday 19 October 2011 need to return their voter registration forms to their parish hall by 12 noon on Monday 5 September 2011.

61,500 electors are already on the electoral register; 6,000 more than there were registered for the 2008 elections, but there are still some Islanders who have yet to sign up.

Deputy Greffier of the States, Anne Harris, said: "If you have moved house recently or aren’t sure whether you have filled out a registration form then you should telephone your parish hall and ask them to check whether you are on the electoral register.

"It is important for Islanders to use their vote in the 2011 elections, and you can only do that if you are registered to vote. If you haven’t registered by noon on 5 September 2011, you won’t be able to vote on election day."

Voter registration forms are available to download from the vote.je website and can also be collected from your parish hall. Anyone who is 16 or over and has lived in Jersey for more than 2 years, or for 6 months plus a period that totals 5 years, is eligible to vote and should return their completed registration form to their parish hall by noon on 5 September 2011.
