Graduate survey targets ‘non returners’

09 November 2011

More than 600 Jersey graduates have completed an online destinations survey so far - but the organisers want to hear from more of the people who decided not settle in the Island after university.

The survey was launched by Careers Jersey, which is part of the Department for Education, Sport and Culture, on 6 September to track Jersey students who graduated between 1991 and 2011. It is an online questionnaire that asks former students about qualifications, gap years, where they live now and what they are doing.

Head of Careers Jersey, Andy Gibbs said: “The response has been excellent and some replies have come from as far away as Africa and Australasia so I would like to thank anyone who has already completed the survey. However, we are particularly interested in hearing from more graduates who no longer live in Jersey and who left university between 1991 and 2011, as they are currently under represented.

“If you have friends or family who no longer live in Jersey but graduated during this period then we’d urge you to tell them about the survey and ask them to take part.

“The valuable information they provide will help us find out where our local students are now working, to see how their degree links to the work they are doing and also gain their opinions on a variety of issues linked to the higher education process and graduate employment. It will help us plan for the future.”

The survey is being publicised through university alumni offices, Facebook, local websites and on the States of Jersey website. The online questionnaire should take no more than 10 minutes to complete and the deadline for responses is 30 November 2011.
