Health and Les Amis continue their partnership

28 September 2012

Les Amis and Health and Social Services have signed a new contract which will maintain the charity's provision to Islanders with learning disabilities and their families.

Les Amis, which is based at Five Oaks, provides both long term support for adults living in the community, and short-break respite services for both adults and children.

The Director for Adult Services at Health and Social Services, Chris Dunne, said “We are delighted to confirm we have completed and signed new contracts with Les Amis, which is one of the Island’s leading charities providing support to people with learning disabilities."

Member of the Les Amis committee and former Assistant Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Eddie Noel, said "The signing of the new service level agreement marks a new era for both organisations, maintaining the essential provision of both long term residential support for adults with learning disabilities, and the provision of short breaks for both children and adults, and their family members.

"This follows a difficult period where Les Amis found themselves with real concern about their long term financial sustainability, and their viability as a business. Although it has taken some time to resolve, it is the culmination of hard work on both parties to find a solution that will guarantee a long term future for Les Amis."

Mr Dunne said "Les Amis is a very important partner organisation to us. The services it provides are essential to both the individuals who are supported by them, those people with a learning disability, and to their family members. Les Amis provides peace of mind to families about the long term care and support of their adult children.

"Thanks must go to the executive members of the Les Amis Committee and the Les Amis management team, with particular note to the support from both Assistant Minister for Health and Social Services, John Refault, and Deputy Noel who have helped to achieve a positive outcome."
