Rue des Pres maintenance work

03 August 2012

On Tuesday 7 August 2012 the second phase of infrastructure maintenance works will start on Rue des Pres road and will continue until the end of September.

The road surface is currently uneven and in need of repair and will be replaced in this second phase of the project. Works in the narrowest part of Rue des Pres have been programmed for the summer holidays, since during term-time school children and parents use this section of the road to access Plat Douet School. The surface of the junction between Rue des Pres and Plat Douet roads will be modified to improve surface water drainage providing an opportunity to improve the junction layout in favour of the majority of traffic flow. The proposed layout is being implemented following a trial in the last month to ensure that it did not lead to an increase in the speed of vehicles.

Transport and Technical Services has appointed Pallot Tarmac Ltd to undertake the £313,000 contract, following a competitive tender process that considered price as well as resources, programme, traffic management arrangements and personnel.

As the road is narrow, both sides of the carriageway will need to be resurfaced and strengthened at the same time and the whole road will have to be closed to through traffic. This will be undertaken in sections. Road-users will be diverted along Aubin Lane from 9 am to 4.30 pm.

Details about the project and updates on traffic management are available online and information on the section closures and diversion routes will also be displayed at Waitrose supermarket.

Major stakeholders have been consulted, including the emergency services. All businesses along the route will remain open as usual.

Transport and Technical Services will be doing their utmost to minimise disruption and delays to motorists and any disturbance to householders and apologises in advance for any inconvenience caused by these essential infrastructure maintenance works.
