Malta delegation to visit Energy from Waste plant

25 April 2012

A delegation from Malta will be visiting the new Energy from Waste plant at La Collette and discussing waste management issues on Friday 27 April.

The delegation is being led by His Excellency Joseph Zammit Tabona, Malta’s High Commissioner in the UK and will also include:

  • Permanent Secretary for the Ministry for Tourism the Environment and Culture, Peter Portelli
  • Assistant Director, Environment, Sonya Sammut
  • Unit Manager responsible for waste from the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) Kevin Mercieca

The Maltese delegation is keen to learn about how Jersey deals with its waste and the part played by the new Energy from Waste plant. The Minister for TTS and officers from his Department will show the party around the new plant and discuss common waste management issues including recycling.

Deputy Kevin Lewis, Minister for TTS said “Although it is Malta who has come here to find out about our waste management policies, it is always useful for us to find out more about how other islands deal with their waste issues, so I am looking forward to an exchange of information.”

The party arrives in Jersey late on Thursday afternoon and will attend a formal welcoming dinner in the evening hosted by the Deputy Bailiff and attended by the Chief Minister.
