Treasury Minister in Tokyo

05 October 2012

Treasury and Resources Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, will visit Tokyo to attend the Commonwealth Finance Ministers Meeting on 10 October 2012. During his visit to the Japanese capital, he has a schedule of meetings with finance ministers, officials and representatives from the financial services industry.

The Commonwealth meeting runs concurrently with the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group annual meetings, forming the largest annual gathering of the world’s finance ministers.

As well as continuing Jersey’s ongoing association with Commonwealth affairs, Senator Ozouf will be taking advantage of his time in the world’s third largest economy to attend a wide range of meetings, including with the Japanese Ministry of Finance and the British Ambassador to Japan.

Senator Ozouf commented: “I will be engaging on behalf of Islanders with my counterparts from other Commonwealth countries, as well as speaking formally and informally to finance ministers from across the globe. The IMF, World Bank and Commonwealth meetings are attended by the majority of the world’s finance ministers and their officials. This is a unique opportunity to meet and discuss global financial issues and to further raise Jersey’s standing in the international community as a jurisdiction with resilient public finances and a well-regulated financial services industry.

“Identifying new markets and opportunities for Jersey is a key part of our economic strategy, and the opportunity of being in Tokyo furthers our aim of securing growth by developing relations with the world’s major economies. I will be taking advantage of my visit to pursue a full calendar of meetings with government and commercial contacts.”
