Charing Cross plans delayed

16 July 2013

The Planning Department has confirmed that a decision on the Co-op Charing Cross application will not be made at the Planning Applications Panel meeting on 25 July 2013.

The Co-op submitted a revised proposal for consideration the day before the Planning Applications Panel were due to review the application at their June meeting, with a complete set of plans being delivered to the department on 2 July 2013.

While the Planning Department has welcomed the revised plans, which now retain two of the six listed buildings, sufficient time needs to be given to the public to comment on the proposals in order that full consideration is given to the new application.

Planning’s Development Control Director, Peter Le Gresley, said “It is regrettable that the new proposal cannot be reviewed by the Planning Applications Panel at their July meeting. Sufficient time needs to be given to the public and interested groups to review and submit comments on the new scheme and for the Planning Department to give full consideration to the new scheme. Achieving this ahead of 25 July meeting has not been possible.”

The Co-op has applied to demolish its Charing Cross site, now retaining two of the listed buildings (5 and 6 Pitt Street, known as the Foot buildings), and construct a four-storey building comprising of retail units, office space and parking on the ground floor, with office and residential accommodation above.

Mr Le Gresley added “I expect all comments regarding the new scheme to be considered ahead of the Planning Application Panel meeting on 22 August 2013.”
