Traffic controls on La Route du Fort

24 January 2014

Urgent street light repairs will mean that traffic is disrupted this Sunday (26 January), and on subsequent Sundays, along La Route du Fort.

In order to minimise disruption, Transport and Technical Services (TTS) are using Stop / Go boards to control traffic around repair equipment and vehicles, and are only working on Sundays, but road users are still warned to expect additional delays.

Unavoidable for safety reasons

The condition of the lighting along the road, which runs between Georgetown and the Tunnel, has deteriorated rapidly in the wet weather to the point where repairs cannot be delayed any further if the risk to road users is to be avoided. A recent failure in one of the lighting support brackets, and the poor condition of many others along the route, has left TTS with no option but to begin repairs immediately.

TTS had hoped to delay the programmed refurbishment of the lighting until after Easter because of disruption in the area caused by the unplanned road closure on Mount Bingham last autumn, and the part-time road closure on Greve d’Azette, but work is urgent and unavoidable for safety reasons.
