Public briefings on climate change policies

03 February 2020

Islanders are being invited to find out more about the Carbon Neutral Strategy and the Sustainable Transport Policy, and how to get involved in their development.

Public briefings are being held on Wednesday, 5 February, at 10.30am and 5.30pm, at the Town Hall, and on Thursday, 6 February at 12.30pm at Jersey Library.

The hour-long briefings are free and being led by the Government officers who have drafted the strategies.

Director of Strategic Policy Steve Skelton said: “We want to give Islanders the chance to understand the challenges that these proposals seek to address before the debate. If States Members approve them, these proposals could lead to significant changes in many areas, such as the way that we all travel and heat our homes.

“We plan to start significant public engagement and involvement after the debates but felt that Islanders should have the chance to find out, and ask questions about the outline plans before.”

The Carbon Neutral Strategy is Government’s response to the requirement from the States Assembly to bring forward a plan to aim to be carbon neutral by 2030. It'll be debated by the States Assembly on Tuesday, 25 February.

As well as helping to tackle climate change, the Sustainable Transport Policy includes initiatives which have the objectives of enabling Islanders to become more active and healthy, improving air quality, and easing congestion. It'll be debated on Tuesday, 10 March.

Islanders should register for tickets on Eventbrite.
