Apprenticeship applications opens

01 July 2020

Islanders can apply for a scheme that supports apprentices and businesses through professional mentoring and industry-specific training.

More than 500 apprentices are currently supported in their training across 28 industries including construction, cyber security and beauty therapy, and from today Islanders can apply for a place on the next apprenticeship programme, which starts in September.

As the majority of the Island’s apprenticeships are run by Highlands College, a joint application process between the college and Skills Jersey’s Trackers apprenticeship programme has been set up this year so that apprentices and employers need only apply through one portal.

Trackers can provide mentoring and funding or part-funding for people aged 16 and over in their chosen apprenticeships.

Trackers manager Ross Edgar said: “Through the Trackers programme you can be given a professional coach and mentor to guide and support you through all aspects of your apprenticeship journey.

“Evidence shows that a skilled workforce is a more productive workforce. Investing in apprenticeships is a way for businesses to improve their workforce and allow their trainees to learn whilst they earn.

“We’re constantly researching and exploring new industry areas that could benefit from our apprenticeship model in order to fill skills-gaps in the Island and help to upskill Jersey’s workforce.”

Islanders can apply online for the apprenticeship programme. There is also more information about the Trackers apprenticeship scheme and Highlands College courses online.
