Drainage work to begin on New Street

15 April 2021

New Street between Voisins Lane (next to St Paul's Church) and King Street will be closed to traffic between Monday 19 April and Sunday 30 May for drainage improvements.

Channel Islands based contractor Geomarine has been appointed to improve the flow of sewage by reshaping the base of the Town Brook, underneath Voisins.

A new buggy device has been developed and trialled. It will be installed in the underground brook and pulled between Don Street and New Street, laying a concrete material along the base and then on its final pass will leave a new streamlined shape.

Inbound buses will be diverted from Val Plaisant into Devonshire Place. Access for delivery vehicles to the lower end of New Street will be via Conway Street between the normal unloading times of 7pm – 10am.

Taxis will be able to access Library Place via Conway Street only.

A temporary disabled parking bay will be created next to West's Centre in Beresford Street as the disabled parking pays at the lower end of New Street will be unavailable.

The drainage team apologises in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause.
